Genius

Apparently in Roman times they believed that genius was a divine spirit that lived outside of the body, a kind of guardian spirit for each person. Like you weren't an actual genius yourself but you had one floating around somewhere.

It wasn't till the Renaissance that genius started describing the kind of superhuman creativity or intellect that we know of now.

Dunno about you but I'm pretty sure my genius (if I have any) is the Roman type . . . because it seems to go on long extended holidays, pops in occasionally when least expected, and then fucks off again when I need it most! No idea when it will be back, not even a postcard . . . not handy at all.
